Coupons are a great way to incentivise course sales.
But it can be hard to figure out whether you should use multiple-use or single-use coupons in Teachable. And you might worry that using the wrong one will hinder sales.
By the end of this post, you'll understand the difference between the two types of coupon and you'll know which type to use for your specific situation.
Let's jump in!

What are multiple-use coupons?
Multiple-use coupons are discount codes that can be used multiple times to redeem a discount. More than one person can use them, and they can be used multiple times by the same person on some products.
Here are some common ways to use multiple-use coupons:
You could offer 25% off for anyone who uses the code SUMMER25 at checkout.
You could offer a 10% discount on a new product for your existing customers.
You could create a 100% off coupon to let beta testers join the course for free.
Unless you know you need single-use coupons, multiple-use is probably what you need!
Limiting usage: Just because they can be used multiple times, doesn't mean you can't add limits. You can limit how many times the coupon can be used based on volume or a specific date. For example, you could limit it to 10 uses or set it to expire on January 1st.
What about single-use coupons?
Single-use coupons can only be redeemed once. After that, they stop working. They're most often used when corporate clients buy a large number of 'seats' for a Teachable product.
Here are some examples of when you might use single-use coupons:
You could create a batch of 40 coupons for 100% off so that 40 people in your clients' company can get in for free (usually because 40 seats have been bought).
You could create a batch of 1,000 coupons for 10% off as part of a partnership so that your partner can distribute a discount to their readership
The main benefit of single-use coupons is security.
When you share a batch of 40 unique codes, each end user can only use their code once. If it were a multiple-use coupon, they could share that coupon with family or friends.
When to use single-use coupons: Use them when you're working with a corporate/enterprise client who is buying a large number of seats. Otherwise, stick with a multiple-use code that can be used for a specified number of times.
