Did you know you can change the entire language of your Teachable school?
Even if your lesson content is in a different language, having the rest of your school in English can still confuse non-English speaking students.
By the end of this post, you'll know how to change your entire school into a different language so that non-English speakers can navigate around your school easily.
Let's jump in!

Step #1: Update Your Custom Text
Find it: In your Teachable school > Site > Custom Text
Teachable makes it easy to change all the text on your site. It can take a while to work through the translations, but once you have, your school will be in the new language.
Open your Teachable dashboard.
Go to Site > Custom Text.
For each Default phrase listed, translate the Current phrase into your chosen language.
Click Save.
For example, if you're translating your school into Spanish, you would enter "Administración" as the Current value on the right. Once saved, the word "Admin" would be replaced with "Administración" translation across your whole school.
It can take a while, but you'll need to translate all of the phrases on this page!
Step #2: Update Your Email Templates
Find it: In your Teachable school > Emails > Template Editor
Once you've changed all of the text on your school, you'll also need to update the text in the emails sent from Teachable. Teachable sends automatic emails to students when they engage with your school and these are in English by default.
Open your Teachable dashboard.
Go to Emails > Template Editor.
For each template in the Select a template dropdown:
Find any text in the editor that:
Is displayed as white text.
Isn't between {{ curly brackets }}.
Is text that would be visible in the email.
Is in the wrong language.
Translate that text into your new language.
Click Save template.
Click Preview and check that the email still displays correctly.
Make sure you don't edit any of the code itself! Only edit the specific text you're translating. If you remove or change any of the other symbols or content, the email layout might break.
Important: If the email layout is broken when you preview your changes, don't panic! Just click Reset template to revert the email to its original state.
Considerations and Limitations
English in your school URLs - Some parts of your URLs (like
/sign_in
or/courses
) will stay in English. This can't be changed because it's part of Teachable's actual functionality.Creating multiple schools - If you need to offer your school in two languages entirely, you'd need to create two separate schools. Alternatively, you can create separate courses for each language.
One language per school - Language changes are school-wide. You can have course pages and lesson content in different languages, but the platform itself can only be in one language (defined in the Custom Text section).

Conclusion
That's it! If you've followed both of the steps above, your whole school should now be in your chosen language.
